5-Star Reviews: Yelp

Astoria’s 5-star reviews: 9/29-10/6

Congratulations to all who received Yelp’s highest honor this week. In this edition, we give an additional shout-out to Butcher Bar, which ranked WAY the heck up there in ZAGAT’s 2013 New York City Restaurants Guide… We also welcome Bud’s Ale House to the Astoria Yelp merry-go-round. In this, their first week, they received 10 reviews—most of which were pretty good… And lastly, here’s a tease: ONE of the businesses featured in this listing will be the star of our first-ever Astoria Social Media//Profile, which will be posted tomorrow. I’m not asking you to guess, but here’s a hint: Their Mission (from their Facebook “About” page) is to “Make it fresh, make it from scratch, make it with love.”

Astor Bake Shop: Bring your best friend!

10/1/12 Astor Bake Shop 12-23 Astoria Blvd

“A great neighborhood place in a quiet, residential part of Astoria. The staff are very friendly and there is a small outdoor area where you can take your dog (the wait staff always bring a water dish for the dog, which is really nice). My husband and I tried the Smoked Salmon/soft boiled egg sandwich which was DELICIOUS. All in all, a win.”—Yoona J., Astoria, NY

9/29/12 Namaste 31-15 30th Ave

“Usually went to Jackson Heights, before finding Namaste, as the other locals places just don’t come close to the taste or value…  basically either go Namaste, head to Jackson Heights or travel to Bombay for the best!”—Grace F., Astoria, NY

9/29/12 Sai Organics 30-21 30th Ave

9/29/12 The Attic Hour Children’s Thrift Shop 35-53 Crescent St

Love Vesta’s website, which includes not just photos of their restaurant, but of their “current exhibition” as well.

9/30/12 Dave Meeting Piano Tuning and Repair 32-27 48th St

TWO 5-star reviews: 9/30 and 10/1/12 Golden Hands Bodywork 35-15 30th Ave

“Be warned, this is not a sissy massage… they work out knots with force and it’s fantastic.”—Maggie Jo H., New York, NY

“Best massage I’ve ever had. Don’t go if you’re sensitive, but if there’s a spot you need rubbed out, they’ll get it.”—Lauren G., Astoria, NY

First week on Yelp: Bud’s Ale House got generally favorable reviews.

FIVE 5-star reviews: 10/1 (2), 10/4, 10/5, 10/6/12 Bud’s Ale House 34-02 Steinway St

“A long needed alternative to Canz..” “I was quite impressed… “With 58 taps and at least 36 different beers (I counted), there’s no better place for a beer geek to drink their fill.”

10/1/12 The Astor Room 34-12 36th St

10/1/12 Steinway Court Veterinarian 32-41 Steinway St

“When I realized my cat was in a very critical condition… I transported him to Animal Medical Center (York Ave. in Manhattan). Dr. Glasser was understanding and gave us a CD of X-rays, blood work info, and gently discharged my cat…
AMC agreed with all of Dr. Glasser’s findings and conclusions, and knowing that AMC is a world-class fully equipped animal hospital, I think that is a big affirmation of Dr. Glasser.”—Michael W., Astoria, NY

“All 3 of the pies I shared with my workmates were outstanding—thin, crispy crust, fresh shrooms, unusual sideshow veggies, and those awesome, homemade cheeses. TWO 5-star reviews on 10/5/12 Il Bambino 34-08 31st Ave

“Best restaurant in Astoria. Hands down… The Italian meatloaf panini is to die for. So is the porchetta, so is the pecorino, fontina, mozzarella and truffle panini, so are every single crostini. Tonight we had the Mac and cheese, bacon and truffle aioli panini. My God. Amazing.”—Mike D., Rice Military, Houston, TX
