5-Star Reviews: Yelp

Sunday social: 5-star reviews!

Mosaic Cafe & Lounge via Yelp

TWO 5-star reviews: 7/1 and 7/5 Mosaic Café & Lounge 25-19 24th Ave

“As a neighbor who’s been in the neighborhood 15 years I loved my experience with Mosaic, great staff and simply marvelous cheese plates. I love its decor as well. I was also a big fan of 24, the establishment prior which had its own mystique and it’s fun to see all its regulars now at Mosaic. Wow Astoria just keeps getting better.”

“I really like this bar. Great beer selection for being a wine-y kinda bar. Cheese was good too. Gets crowded fast now on the weekends and isn’t extremely large. The ambience feels a little formal but it’s actually pretty chill/laid-back. Will be back. Also, every waiter I’ve had (x3 different ones) have been absolutely fantastic with service and drink choice suggestions.”

7/1/12 Seva 30-07 34th St

“Hold on, let me compose myself.
Okay.

This place is amazing.  The decor is perfect, and I wish I had one of their beautiful hanging lights in my apartment.  Unlike some other places in the neighborhood, the music is upbeat but doesn’t overtake the experience, and lets you have a conversation at a normal volume.  The waitstaff is phenomenal, constantly monitoring how much water is in your cup, and asking how the food is.
The answer to that question?  VERY, VERY GOOD.  For $13.50 per person you get an appetizer, entree, and a dessert – can’t be beat for the quality of the food.”

7/1/12 Il Bambino 34-08 31st Ave

“I have never had a bad meal at Il Bambino, and I’ve gone here for all possible meals. The crostinis are always a delight, impossible to choose between them. Mozzarella, pesto and chili oil? Yes please! Goat cheese, honey, rosemary? Yes again! The truffle egg salad? You will never be the same. The tapas plates are great to share with a small group, everyone gets to try. There’s an excellent list of accompanying wines. I haven’t even mentioned the brunch menu! It’s bliss.”

7/3/12 Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company 35-09 Ditmars

“Brooklyn Bagels is my favorite place in Astoria to get bagels from. The outside of the bagel is hard and “crusty” while the inside is super soft. … However, if you are not in the mood for a bagel, grab a soup, sandwich, or omelet. The soups are amazing (they are made by another company but served there) and the breakfast wraps and omelets are great. I would recommend the pancakes (had them once, they were ok).
This place does get crowded in the morning, but the line moves fast and I never had trouble finding seats (most people bring their food home).”

TWO 5-star both on 7/3/12 Taverna Kyclades 33-07 Ditmars

“Best fish place in New York. Try grilled octopus, sprintzes, calamari, mediterrenean sea bass, shepherd salad.”

“Excellent grilled calamari, lemon potatoes and Greek hamburger at lunch.”

7/3/12 Astoria Tax Preparation 28-05 33rd St Ste 2B

“Mr Jerry C has been a tremendous help reviewing my taxes and discovering major mistakes, and worked diligently to ensure I receive money I’ve overpaid. He was always just a phone call away if I have any questions. Mr Chin is very professional, detail oriented and works expeditiously, I will be one returning happy customer.”

7/4/12 Guacamole 38-07 Broadway

“I love this restaurant. The waitstaff was very friendly and they have the best Mexican food I have found in NY. Everything I’ve had there has been absolutely delicious and our server was very knowledgeable about what was in the dishes. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. It’s my go to and I tend to crave it.
P.S. Their drinks are strong.”

El Boqueron via Yelp

7/4/12 El Boqueron 31-01 34th Ave

7/4/12 Metropolitan Lumber and Hardware 34-35 Steinway

“I must say I am surprised that people said the service was so bad. I went in here to pick up some sheet metal screws.  Someone immediately came and asked me if I needed help, and we went through all the different kinds, sizes, etc.. I only needed six screws but the ones I needed came in a box of 50. The guy ended up going in the back and getting me just six and didn’t charge me. I ended up buying some other things to make sure they got a fair deal. I will go back.”

7/5/12 Mundo Café & Restaurant 31-18 Broadway

“I loved this place. Everything about it, besides that it’s a little hard to find because it’s off of Broadway and not actually on Broadway. We had the artichoke bottoms, red sonja, spinach dumplings, beet salad, and the causa. Everything was so, so so so so so so good. The causa was my least favorite but everything else was something I would totally get again. Very unique and I don’t know where else I would find these dishes. I also surprisingly haven’t heard much about this place in regards to Astoria dining, which is shocking. You definitely have to go.”

Sorriso Italian Pork Store via Yelp

TWO 5-star reviews: 7/4 and 7/5 Sorriso Italian Pork Store 44-16 30th Ave

“Found my new favorite Pre-BBQ stop in the neighborhood.”

“Great Old School Italian Salumeria. They have Great Food, Excellent and Fresh meats and Sandwiches and a great assortment of anything Italian you can think of.
The guys behind the counter are so nice and welcoming and their prices are great. I’m glad I love close by :)

THREE 5-star reviews: 7/2, 7/5 and 7/7/12 Brazilian Waxing Center 37-11 35th Ave

THREE 5-star reviews: 7/3, 7/5 and 7/6/12 Bubba’s Gourmet 31-13 Ditmars

“I welcome Bubba’s to the neighborhood!
It’s fresh, friendly and something different in the neighborhood!
I have only been in 3 times since they have opened but I feel it will definitely be one of my favorite places in the area.
The Food:  So far, has been excellent.  Definitely fresh and made to order. I had the crepes twice and was pleased with the portion and flavor profile. The menu is beyond extensive and I plan on working my way through it with each visit!
The Service:  Such a refreshing change to be greeted nicely, sincerely and promptly. The owner couldn’t be nicer. It shows he puts his heart into the place.
The staff is on top of things and seems eager to please. The Cons:  all temporary.  They are new and like all new businesses, run into some glitches. The owner is aware of their bumps and seems to be smoothing them out.
They are ready and willing to rectify any dissatisfactions.

If you’re in the neighborhood, try them out for yourself. I look forward to a long relationship with Bubba’s.”
